Knitting Back Side Border
First of all, we will make the border of the hat. We have started knitting this hat from the back side, so we will first make the back side border. The border is made in a 1×1 Rib stitch.
We have to fold the border, so we will make the length of the border a little more. Here I have made a border of 2.5 inches. The pattern of the border is as follows.
Row 1 ( RS ) – K1, P1, K1, P1 ……………………
Row 2 ( WS ) – Knit in knit & Purl in purl ( K1, P1, K1, P1 …………. )
Repeat rows 1 & 2 and knit a 2.5-inch border.
Knitting Body of Hat
After the border is completed, we will put the design in the hat. You can put any design of your choice in the hat. The design I have included here is an easy Knit & Purl pattern. This pattern gives a very classy look and is also very easy to knit.
This pattern is of 8 rows & we have to complete the length of the hat by repeating these 8 rows. Keep in mind that the hat is being made from back to front and will be stitched by pulling it from both sides, so we have to keep its length a little more.
The pattern of the baby visor hat is given below.
Row 1 ( RS ) – Purl all sts
Row 2 ( WS ) – Knit all sts
Row 3 ( RS ) – Purl all sts
Row 4 ( WS ) – Knit all sts ……………. last sts P1
Row 5 ( RS ) – Knit all sts
Row 6 ( WS ) – Purl all sts
Row 7 ( RS ) – Knit all sts
Row 8 ( WS ) – Purl all sts ……………….. last sts K1
Now repeat rows 1 to 8 and make 20 purl stripes from the right side.
Knitting Front Side Border
After completing the length of the cap, we will knit the border of the front side.
We have to knit the border in a 1×1 rib stitch, but the length of the front border will be half of the back side border because we have to fold the back border. The pattern of the front border is given below
Row 1 ( RS ) – K1, P1, K1, P1 ……………..
Row 2 ( WS ) – Knit in knit & Purl in purl ( K1, P1, K1, P1 …………… )
Continue knitting & knit 1 inch border.
Knitting Brim for Hat
Lastly, we will knit the brim of the hat, this will make our hat look stylish. The pattern for knitting Brim is given below.
Row 1 ( RS ) – Purl all sts
Row 2 ( WS ) – Knit all sts
Row 3 ( RS ) – Knit all sts …………… last 2 sts slip then turn the work
Row 4 ( WS ) – Purl all sts ………….. last 2 sts slip then turn the work
Row 5 ( RS ) – Knit all sts ………….. last 4 sts slip then turn the work
Row 6 ( WS ) – Purl all sts …………. last 4 sts slip then turn the work
Continue knitting until we have the middle 28 stitches left.
Row 1 ( RS ) – K28, K2 then turn the work
Row 2 ( WS ) – P30, P2 then turn the work
Row 3 ( RS ) – K32, K2 then turn the work
Row 4 ( WS ) – P34, P2 then turn the work
Continue knitting until we knit all stitches from both sides.
Now that the brim of the hat is completed, we will proceed to bind off the stitches.
Right Side – Knit wise bind off all sts
Sew the Hat
Finally, we have to sew the cap. To sew, first of all, we will sew the open part of the brim with the border.
After this, we will fold the back side border and sew it. Then we will attach the front and back borders from both sides.
Then, turn the cap right side up, leaving a half-inch gap from the side edge, and pick up every purl stitch from the side edge.
Secure it tightly by pulling. In the same way, we need to sew the other side as well.
Now baby visor hat is ready to be worn.

FAQ
What are the essential materials needed for knitting a visor hat?
You need 10 number straight needles or size 3.25 mm, and 90 grams of 4-ply Baby Soft Yarn to knit a hat with a brim.
What size is the baby visor brim hat designed for, and can it be easily adapted for different age groups?
The baby visor brim hat is designed to fit 3 to 7-year-old children. However, it can be adapted for different age groups by adjusting the initial cast-on stitches. For adults, the pattern suggests casting on 110 to 120 stitches.
What type of stitch is used for the backside border, and why is it essential for folding the border later in the pattern?
The backside border is made using a 1×1 Rib stitch. The 1×1 Rib stitch is essential for folding the border later in the pattern because its inherent elasticity allows for a neat and flexible fold. This ensures that when the border is folded, it maintains a snug fit around the bottom edge of the hat, providing both a polished appearance and a comfortable fit.
