Knitting Materials & Tools
Knitting Yarn: (80 Gram) Vardhman Woolista Merino (100%) Wool Yarn.
Knitting Needles: 10 (3.25 mm UK Size) number straight needles.
Optional materials include a measuring tape, cable needle, scissors, and a darning needle.
Common Abbreviations of Knitting Stitches
SL2tog: Slip 2 sts together knit-wise
P2tog: Purl 2 sts together
K2tog: Knit 2 sts together
SL(P): Slip(Purl Wise)
K: Knit
P: Purl
STS: Stitches
RS: Right Side
WS: Wrong Side
SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit (Slip one stitch knitwise, Slip the next stitch knitwise, Insert the left needle into the front of these two slipped stitches & Knit them together through the back loop).
T2F: Twist 2 sts from front (Slip 1 sts onto cable needle and hold in front work then K1 from left-hand needle then SL1 from Cable needle).
Free Sunayana Flat Cable Hat Pattern – Step-by-Step Guide
Flat knit cable hat size: Adult (To fit head circumference: 21-22”/23-24”, Length from brim to top: approximately 9”.
Skills: Intermediate/Beginner.
Skills used in the pattern: Casting On, 24 rows repeat flat cable knit pattern, 1X1 Rib sts (For Border), Decreases & Sewing Together a Seam.
Cast on: 114 sts.
Knitting the Ribbing of Flat Cable Hat
The flat cable hat has a simple 1X1 rib stitch border. You can make the length of the border as long as you like. The pattern for the border is given below.
Row 1(RS): * P1, K1 * repeat from * to * …………. last 2 sts P2
Row 2(WS): Knit in knit & Purl in purl (Same as row 1)
Repeat these 2 rows on both sides and complete the length of the border. I knitted 1.5 inches for this, which is a total of 14 rows.
Knitting the Body of Flat Cable Hat
The flat cable pattern in the hat has 24 rows and 28 stitches. I used 114 stitches in total and added the pattern 4 times. The pattern for the design is given below for you to follow.

Repeat these 24 rows to complete the length of the hat. I have knitted 8 inches (1.5 inch border + 6.5 inch flat cable design part). For this, I have completed 2 full patterns and 12 additional rows.
Shaping the Crown of Flat Cable Hat
The stitches should be decreased keeping the hat’s design in mind, so the overall look is good. The pattern for decreasing the stitches is given below. The hat has been decreased in 12 rows, and the length of the hat will increase by 1 inch.
