Materials Needed for the Cable Knit Hat
Knitting Yarn: (80 Gram) Vardhman Woolista Merino (100%) Wool Yarn.
Knitting Needles: 10 (3.25 mm) number straight needles.
Optional materials include a measuring tape, cable needle, scissors, and a darning needle.
Abbreviations Guide for the Men’s Cable Knit Hat Pattern
SL2tog: Slip 2 sts together knit-wise
P2tog: Purl 2 sts together
K2tog: Knit 2 sts together
SL(P): Slip(Purl Wise)
K: Knit
P: Purl
STS: Stitches
RS: Right Side
WS: Wrong Side
SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit (Slip one stitch knitwise, Slip the next stitch knitwise, Insert the left needle into the front of these two slipped stitches & Knit them together through the back loop).
T2B: Twist 2 sts from back (Slip 1 sts onto cable needle and hold in back work then K1 from left-hand needle then P1 from Cable needle).
T2F: Twist 2 sts from front (Slip 1 sts onto cable needle and hold in front work then P1 from left-hand needle then K1 from Cable needle).

Size: Adult (To fit head circumference: 21-22”/23-24”, Length from brim to top: approximately 8.5”.
Skills: Intermediate/Beginner.
Skills used in the pattern: Casting On, 16 rows repeat twisted cable pattern, 2X2 Rib sts (For Border), Decreases & Sewing Together a Seam.
Cast on: 114 sts
Knitting a Rib Stitch Border
A 2/2 Rib Stitch border has been knitted for the Cable Hat. You can adjust the length of the border according to your preference, making it shorter or longer.
Additionally, you can choose any other border pattern you like. The pattern for the border is provided below.
Row 1- P1, * P2, K2 * repeat from * to * …………. last sts P1
Row 2- Knit in knit & Purl in purl (Same as ROW 1)
Repeat these rows on both sides to complete the length of the border. A length of 1.5 inches has been knit, which is a total of 14 rows.
Detailed Cable Pattern Instructions for the Men’s Hat
The cable pattern is knit using 8 stitches, meaning you need to cast on stitches in multiples of 8. Additionally, the last two stitches are for the edges. For the cable hat, 114 stitches have been cast on, so the design fits perfectly.
This pattern is 16 rows long, so you will need to repeat the pattern every 16 rows.

Repeat these 16 rows to complete the length of the cable knit hat. A total of 8.5 inches has been knit (1.5 inches for the border and 7 inches for the design part). To achieve this, the full pattern was repeated 3 times, plus an additional 12 rows.
Easy Bind-Off Technique for Your Cable Knit Hat
The bind-off should be done keeping in mind the design of the cable so that the crown of the hat also looks beautiful.
The bind-off will take a total of 8 rows, and the length of the hat will increase by about 1 inch. The bind-off pattern is given below.
Row 1 (RS)- SL1(P), * P2, K2tog, SSK, P2 * repeat from * to * …………. last sts P1
Now, 86 stitches remain.
Row 2 (WS)- SL1(P), * K2, P2, K2 * repeat from * to * ……………. last sts P1
Row 3 (RS)- SL1(P), * P1, K2tog, SSK, P1 * repeat from * to * ………… last sts P1
Now, 58 stitches remain.
Row 4 (WS)- SL1(P), * K1, P2, K1 * repeat from * to * ………… last sts P1
Row 5 (RS)- SL1(P), * K2tog, SSK * repeat from * to * ………………. last sts P1
Now, 30 stitches remain.
Row 6 ( WS)- Purl all sts
Row 7 (RS)- K2tog, K2tog, K2tog, K2tog ……………………….
Now, 15 stitches remain.
Row 8 (RS)- Purl all sts
Pass all 15 stitches over the first stitch and secure it after that sew the hat.
