How to Knit the Foldable Border for Cable Knit Beanie
Here, I have knitted a 1X1 Rib stitch border. Since the border is foldable, I have kept its length longer. The pattern for the Foldable Border is given below.
Row 1 (RS): * P1, K1(back loop & reverse wrap) * repeat from * to * …..last 2 sts P2
Repeat this row on both sides and complete approximately 2 inches. I have knit a total of 17 rows.
Adding a Fold Line to the Border:
Row 18 (WS): Knit all sts………last sts P1
Row 19 (RS): Purl all sts
Border Pattern After the Fold Line:
Row 20 (WS): Same as row 1
Repeat the 20th row on both sides. I have knit a total of 13 rows. Our total border length is approximately 3.5 inches.
Note: This beanie features a foldable brim, but if you prefer a non-foldable brim, simply knit a 2-inch border and then begin the cable pattern. It looks just as beautiful without the foldable brim
Easy Instructions for the Twisted Cable Pattern
This cable pattern consists of 11 stitches and is completed once every 4 rows.
Row 1 (RS): SL1(P), * P4, K2, P3, K2 * repeat from * to * ………….. last sts P1
Row 2 (WS): SL1(P), * P2, K3, P2, K4 * repeat from * to * …………… last sts P1
Row 3 (RS): Same as row 1
Row 4 (WS): SL1(P), * P2, K3, P2, C4B * repeat from * to * ……….. last sts P1
Repeat these 4 rows and complete the length of the beanie. I have knit 10 inches (3.5-inch border + 6.5-inch cable part).
Decrease Stitches in Twisted Cable Beanie Pattern
The Beanie should be decreased keeping the design in mind. Here, the hat needs to be decreased in 8 rows, which will increase the hat’s length by approximately 1 inch.
The pattern for how to decrease the stitches in the hat according to the design is given below.
Row 1: SL1(P), * P2, K3tog (SL2tog, K1, both slip sts over the knit sts), P2, K4 * Repeat from * to * …………. last sts P1
Now, 92 stitches remain.
