Knitting 2X2 Rib Border
I’ve knitted a 2×2 rib border for this hat. Since I want the border to fold over, I’ve made it a bit longer at 4 inches. Here’s the stitch pattern for the border.
Row 1 ( Right Side ) – * K2, P2 * repeat from * to * till end of the row
Row 2 ( Wrong Side ) – Knit in knit & Purl in purl
Repeat these rows and complete the border. I have knitted 4 inches border.
Honeycomb Stitch Knitting Pattern
After completing the border, we will add the design to the hat. Here, I have added a honeycomb design to the hat, which is very beautiful and easy to make. This design is very popular. It is only a four-row pattern.
Now, since we have made the border to fold, the straight/right part of the design will be on the reverse side (Wrong Side) of the hat.
Right Side (Base Row) – Knit all sts
Row 1 – SL1, * K1 from first loop & throughout under the sts , K1 * repeat from * to * ………………. last sts K1
Row 2 – SL1, * K1, K2tog * repeat from * to *………….. last sts K1
Row 3 – SL1, * K1, K1 from first loop & throughout under the sts * repeat from * to * ……………….. last sts K1
Row 4 – SL1, * K2tog , K1* repeat from * to *………….. last sts K1
Repeat these 4 rows and complete the length of the hat. I have knitted 11 inches (4-inch border + 7-inch design part ).
Bindoff the Honeycomb Hat
When the length of the hat is complete, we will start binding off the hat. Here, we need to complete the total length of the hat because we will bind off the hat in just two to three rows. Below is the pattern for how to bind off.
Right Side – SL1, K2tog, K2tog, K2tog, K2tog ……………….. last sts K1
Now I have a total of 52 sts.
Wrong Side – Knit all sts
Right Side -SL1, K2tog, K2tog, K2tog, K2tog ………….. last sts K1
Now I have a total of 27 sts.
Seam the Hat
After decreasing stitches in two rows, at the end, whatever stitches are left, we will thread them onto a needle and securely tighten them. We will then seam the open section of the hat from top to bottom using the sewing needle.
